Why Have a Professional Teeth Cleaning?

The purpose of doing a professional teeth cleaning is to clean your mouth thoroughly from dental plaque and tartar that hardens on the teeth and gums over time.  Tartar cannot be easily removed by regular brushing; hence, leaving it in your mouth for a long time causes cavities, gum disease, gum recession, and tooth decay which eventually leads to tooth loss. Besides the oral discomfort, a large body of research indicates a strong connection between oral health and systemic health. For instance, heart disease, respiratory disease, diabetes mellitus, and preterm low birth weight babies are all linked to periodontitis (an advanced stage of gum disease).  For this reason, every person needs professional teeth cleaning and a good oral care routine to eliminate the risk of losing their teeth and having systemic diseases.

How Often Should You Have Professional Teeth Cleaning?

Typically, most people are required to have their teeth cleaned twice a year. This applies to people who sustain a good oral care routine of brushing twice a day and flossing or using interdental brushes daily. If you have poor oral care, don’t brush twice, or floss every day, then it is recommended to have your teeth professionally cleaned and checked every three to four months.

Teeth Cleaning with Toothbus.

The Toothbus is operated by a registered and professional dental hygienist who is fully licensed to do your professional teeth cleaning for you.  First, you can book your teeth cleaning appointments online or via phone at 778-721 0800. On your appointment day, the Toothbus will head to your specified location and send you a message inviting you inside the Toothbus, once your appointment is about to start. If you have dental insurance, please let us know ahead of time or you may bring it with you.  If you are a new patient with Toothbus, the dental hygienist will collect some information about you first, then do an extraoral and intraoral exam and then start with the teeth cleaning process. For more details about the teeth cleaning process, check out our blog “Go in Stress-Free into your Teeth Cleaning Appointment”, which explains step by step what happens during a teeth cleaning session with Toothbus.

How Long should a Dental Cleaning Session Take?

Typical teeth cleaning sessions take from 1hr 30 mins to 2 hrs. The time varies based on individually assessed needs.  With the Tootbus, if you are a first-time patient, the total visit duration will be around 1 hr 30 min and if you are a returning patient, the visit should take around 1 hr. As for children, their teeth cleaning visit should take around 30 min.
